We are in DESPERATE need of building a volunteer animal exercising program. We'd like to begin by taking each animal into an exercise area and basically letting the dog or cat run and play for 10- 15 minutes. Some animals may go crazy and run and run, some might be so scared you may have to just hold them. Others might be too scared to even come out of their cages. The rewards are many. First and foremost, it is great exercise for both you and the dog. By working with the animals, many learn to walk on a leash for the first time, they learn how to sit, heel and other important commands that make them more adoptable. Animals become calmer and more sociable. All these assets help them find good homes. Won't you make the commitment to become a volunteer? We ask that you sign up for an hour or more once a week. We walk the dogs six days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. All dog walkers must be 18 years or older, sign a waiver, and have one training session. We would like to have enough to walk each animal every day. Please wear older clothing, good hiking shoes, and be prepared for a little noise! If you are not interested in walking the dogs, perhaps you would consider being a puppy pal or a kitty friend instead. Please join us. It's a great feeling knowing you are making such a difference in an animal's life! We hope to see you soon! |
Here are just a few of the benefits of volunteering:
Be part of the solution. You'll join a network of hundreds of thousands of people working to make the world safe and more humane for all living creatures. You'll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership.
Get warm fuzzies. You'll never find a more grateful and accepting comrade than an animal you have comforted. Who can't use another loyal friend in life?
Keep good company. You'll make lots of new friends—and not just the four-legged kind. Working side by side with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships.
Meet the new you. You'll discover skills you never knew you had, and you may be surprised at what you're capable of achieving.
Gain a new career. You'll learn things that may lead you to the career—or career change—of your dreams. Employers and college admissions officers look favorably on time spent in volunteer service.
Enjoy a wagging tail, a purr, and a smile. Didn't someone once say that the best things in life are free?
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS NEEDED
Adoption Reps/Greeters :
Adoptions are the lifeblood of the shelter, if we cannot find homes for the animals we have in house, we cannot take more in off the streets. Being an adoption rep is a very rewarding position, you get to meet people from all walks of life and get to match them up with their new forever friend, what could be better than that?! However, being an adoption rep requires excellent communication skills, a non judgmental attitude, attention to detail and commitment. If you have what it takes, please consider helping out with adoptions. Currently we have a huge need for adoption reps/greeters and even if you can only commit to 2 hours a week, it'd be a great help.
Volunteers on this team walk shelter dogs in an area around the Shelter. The goal is to provide adoptable dogs at the shelter with much-needed exercise, human contact and mental stimulation. The dogs rely on the volunteers to get out of their kennels daily.
How Can Volunteers Help?
Dogs are walked once a day, six days a week— in rain, snow, sun and storms.
Morning shifts: 9:00 a.m. - 11 a.m.
